Ovako selects SSG as mill standard
The Swedish production units of Finnish steelmaker Ovako have decided to use SSG Standards as their mill standards. SSG’s business area Technology assists implementation by providing training, activity support and project management.
Ovako’s Swedish units have worked long and hard to find ways to standardize and enhance the efficiency of project undertakings, including work to produce their own standards and instructions for how plants are to be built and maintained.
Like many other plant owners Ovako has discovered that administration and continual updating to reflect new norms and technologies is a very costly business. Frequently there is a lack of resources to keep in-house standards up-to-date. Ovako in Sweden has therefore decided to subscribe to SSG Standards and in a pilot project known as “Ring Mill 10” will use SSG’s standards for purchasing and planning different mill segments.
SSG’s role in the project is to assist and train Ovako’s personnel with a selection of existing standards. SSG also plays the role of project manager in the introduction of SSG Standards at the different units in Sweden.
Works starts at Hofors
“We regard this as a very interesting project where SSG doesn’t just deliver documents for the customer to work with alone. Here we are involved in helping to streamline the use of SSG Standards and in doing so we increase the value our customer gets from our services,” says Jonas Berggren, CEO at SGG Teknik.
