SSG Entre

SSG Entre is a web-based interactive safety training course for contractors to the industry. SSG Entre has been developed in collaboration with 34 mills in the pulp & paper industry.

The purpose of SSG Entre is to increase safety in performed contracting work. The background is that historically contractors have been overrepresented in accident statistics while at the same time the traditional safety training courses are time-consuming for the industry as well as costly and ineffective.

SSG administers the concept on behalf of the participating companies. To continue to develop SSG Entre SSG has the support of a reference group composed of representatives from the participating businesses.

Currently there are 68 industries linked to this industry-wide safety training course and to date 35,000 employees of contractors have completed the course and been awarded an Entre passport.

Advantages for the mills

  • Fewer incidents and accidents.
  • Increased cost-efficiency.
  • Reduced costs since the contractors take the course on their own time.
  • Lower time expenditure since the plant’s own contractor training efforts are reduced.
  • Improved control helps ensure that the safety training course has actually been completed.
  • Increased safety in contracted services.

Advantages for the contractors

  • Greater safety.
  • Simplifies training in safety and protection to maintain the correct knowledge.
  • Heightened flexibility to conduct training when it suits the contractor or employee.
  • Training is valid for a fixed period of time.
  • Possible to register other individual skills (hot work, forklift, overhead crane authorization etc).
  • Moreover, a training database is created for presentation to potential clients – a “Contractor’s CV”.

Educational advantages

  • Accessible at any time via internet.
  • Everyone can study individually, regardless of computer skills and time.
  • Possible to navigate through the course using different paths.
  • Brief theory segments, with summaries.
  • Pictures, animation, films and audio.
  • Diagnostic test and self-test for each section.
  • Certification for industry requirements on plant safety.
  • Contract assessment from a safety perspective.

Course content

The course design is based on the plant’s own locally-established training modules. In addition, assisted by industry-wide courses, the companies satisfy the requirements concerning information to contractors concerning applicable Swedish occupational health and safety legislation.

The safety training course covers the following areas:

  • General regulations
  • Work environment
  • Preparedness for accidents and fire
  • Equipment
  • Environment
  • Certification.

The employee is awarded an Entre passport

When all sections of the course have been successfully completed the contractor's employee is awarded an Entre passport as evidence that the course goals have been reached. This Entre passport is valid at all of the member plants in the industry and certifies that the individual is well-informed about the industry’s safety requirements. The Entre passport must be subsequently renewed by the contractor within three years. The different plants will also have local training segments that the contractor's personnel must pass before work may begin.

Process overview

When purchasing a service from a contractor the purchaser demands that a safety training course must be conducted according to “SSG 2200 Demand for safety training course for contractors”. The training is conducted, logged in SSG’s training database and the Entre passport is issued .

The contractor gains access to the workplace. Safety is followed-up in the customary manner during execution of the contracted work.

After completion of the contract an evaluation from a safety perspective is done by the contractor as well as the customer.
